Tutor: Carole Gray
This Taster Day will give you the opportunity to explore this traditional craft. Carole will teach you the traditional stained glass techniques to make a 20cm square panel or a 29cm square mirror to take home. This is a practical course and you learn the basic construction processes of cutting glass and putting a panel together using the Tiffany Copper foiling technique developed in the Tiffany Studios in the 1890’s.
No previous experience is necessary.
There will be a choice of simple, non-representational, designs & colour packs of glass provided by the tutor as well as all the other materials needed to create your stained glass piece. Due to time constraints, students will not be able to design their own patterns. All the tools and materials required for the course will be supplied. Please bring an apron or overall and wear sturdy shoes.
The tutor will instruct students in the health and safety issues relevant to this course. You must not wear open shoes or have bare legs (even if the weather is warm) in the studio. Do not wear loose clothing or dangly jewellery as it may get caught in machinery. Long hair should be tied back. If you are pregnant, you should consult your GP before enrolling on this course as working with lead based solder can be harmful to the developing baby.
