The cost is £12.50 per session which is payable for the six week term in advance £75.00

We are a local, friendly interactive group who enjoy painting together on a regular basis, suitable for all abilities, beginners through to experienced painters, sharing ideas and inspiration, guided by artist/tutor Susan Clare, in the cosy and inviting atmosphere of The Butterfly Studio.
Each session will involve a demonstration, some instruction, practice and creating a piece of art, plus, of course, time for a chat over tea, coffee and biscuits.
New Year Sessions
04/01 Moving Water Splashes and spatter, fast flowing rivers or waterfalls.
11/01 Moving Water Splashes and spatter, colours in waves.
18/01 Snowdrops Masking whites, wet-in-wet, granulation medium.
25/01 Snowdrops Finding colours in white flowers.
01/02 Grand Landscapes Review planning, contrast and values 1 – 5.
08/02 Grand Landscapes Layering washes for perspective and string technique.
What to Bring:
Brushes:- a large wash brush (flat or round), a round, (size 8 to 12), a smaller round for details (size 8 or smaller).
Notepad/sketchbook, pencil (2B or more), eraser.
Painting pad, block or at least three sheets of watercolour paper (A4 or larger).
Watercolour paints, (Susan prefers the Artists’ Professional tube paints by Winsor & Newton).
A support board (if you have one, use of boards included, if not).
Winsor (phthalo) blue (green shade)
Permanent Alizarin Crimson
Lemon Yellow Hue
(In other words, you want a warm and cool version of each primary colour, as a basic palette).
If you opt to pay for the use of materials (£5 extra per session payable directly to Susan) that will include paint and paper, use of brushes and palette. Susan will also have reasonably priced equipment (brushes, palettes, pencils, erasers) if you want to buy them on the day.
The studio will provide aprons, water pots, support boards, paper kitchen towel and masking tape.
*Optional extras could be: Burnt Sienna, Permanent Sap Green, Dioxazine Purple, Permanent Rose, Quinacridone Gold, Indigo, Burnt Umber. Don’t worry if you don’t have all these – just bring what you have. We will sometimes paint from live scenes in front of you, or if you prefer, you can work from photos – bring your own if you have some you like, or Susan can provide a choice of reference material.
